The 2011 Toyota Highlander is a mid-sized crossover SUV that seats seven passengers easily and provides a smooth and comfortable ride. There are two engines available for the Toyota Highlander. Available for the base model is 2.7-liter dual overhead cam 16-Valve 4-Cylinder with Dual Variable Valve Timing that can produce 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a six-speed automatic and the drive is front-wheel.

The other engine that is optional on the base and SE models but standard on the Toyota Highlander Limited is 3.5-Liter dual overhead cam 24-Valve V6 also with Dual Variable Valve Timing that can produce 270 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Standard with this engine is front-wheel drive and a five-speed automatic transmission; optional is all-wheel drive.

Fuel economy for the Toyota Highlander is based on engine and drive type. The four-cylinder engine is rated at 20 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined. The six-cylinder engine with front-wheel drive is rated at 18 mpg in the city, 24miles per gallon on the highway and 20 mpg combined. The same engine with all-wheel drive is rated at 17 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg combined. The vehicle can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped.
