The 2011 Cadillac SRX crossover has been downsized from its earlier tradition. While its first appearance hosted 3 rows of passenger seating, rear wheel drive, and a V-8 engine the 2011 Cadillac SRX now operates on front wheel drive, two rows of passenger seating, and a V-6. The idea of any crossover is well versed in the SRX, providing some of the luxuries of an SUV while offering the driver a car ride experience. Despite the downgrading of the powertrain and some of the features, Cadillac has still produced a vehicle that is capable of daily performance in class and style.
The 2.8 liter V-6 engine is turbocharged, offers 300 horsepower, and 295 pounds of torque. The standard transmission is a 6 speed automatic. As a popular option, the Cadillac SRX is also available in an all wheel drive model. For those that would like a little more power under the hood, there is a 300 horsepower engine with 295 pounds of torque.
For true personalization the Cadillac SRX offers the buyer model options. The base, luxury, performance, and platinum editions all have similar standard equipment with perks offered as you go up through the classes. The base model comes with standard leather seats, 18 inch alloy wheels, dual climate control, reclining rear seats that split ad 60/40 for optimal transport options, power driver’s seat, and an 8 speaker Bose stereo system.
At 18 miles per gallon city and 25 miles per gallon highway the fuel efficiency could be improved but isn’t bad for its class. Stability and traction control offer better than average handling and the Cadillac SRX is known for its quiet ride and smooth driver experience. The conservative tuning of the automatic transmission makes acceleration problematic for those who want to feel the familiar get up and go of most crossovers in this class. While the panoramic sunroof is a nice feature, it also lowers the available headroom for rear passengers. Small details make up for some of the oversights, such as ventilating the front seats and offering a higher end more comfortable seating arrangement for the front passengers.
Acceleration is slow and the Cadillac SRX is considered too heavy to be highly competitive within its class. The handling is definitely superior to the competition but the overall competence of the SRX is questioned. It’s essential to have the turbocharged option in order to really get all of the possible power offered in the SRX.
Overall, the 2011 Cadillac SRX crossover could be a great vehicle with all the luxury and class that the car company is known for. Yet with it’s poor record in the start up line coupled with the less than perfect design of the rear seats, this is a crossover that still needs a makeover. If you opt up through the various models offered some of its issues go away, but the Cadillac SRX becomes more expensive with each of its escalating models. It’s a rather high trade off despite its popularity among consumers.
